London 2012 Olympic Volunteering

It may seem like a long way away but the three years until the games will fly by!
London 2012 will depend on up to 70,000 volunteers to make sure the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games run smoothly and successfully. Volunteers will carry out a range of essential tasks, from spectator services to language services and medical care.

There will be two kinds of Games volunteer – specialist and generalist. 

• Specialist volunteers will have specific existing skills or qualifications that are needed for them to complete the role – for example, sport or medical training.
• Generalist volunteers will not need any special skills or qualifications and will receive full training. They might be given roles in areas such as event services, uniform distribution and Village operations.

Applications for the various volunteering roles will open in the summer of 2010, and should be treated as a formal job application. Volunteers will be recruited from across the UK – from a range of communities and backgrounds. Volunteers will be needed for the entire 4 weeks over late summer/early autumn 2010 (2 weeks for the Olympic Games and 2 weeks for the Paralympic Games). Volunteers will be expected to cover their own accommodation costs.
Previous volunteering experience is stated as not required but, as applications will exceed roles available, previous volunteering experience will give you an advantage over an individual with no experience.
