At the Charity Awards 2010, READ International, which has an incredibly successful branch here at QMSU, was voted Best International Aid and Development Charity, beating a number of esteemed opponents.

The charity has been going since 2004, and has helped ship almost 1 million books overseas to Tanzania, where much of the curriculum is similar to that in the UK. It now boasts exciting partnerships with large international firms, such as KPMG, Waterstones and British Airways amongst others, and together has now helped send equipment for sports and education to Tanzania and Uganda. It is run predominantly by student volunteers, so for those of you who were involved from QMSU this is your prize too.

Success has surrounded the charity since its formation, picking up Best New Charity at the Charity Times Awards in 2007, and followed with shortlistings in the 2009 Guardian Charity of the Year and for Corporate Partnership of the Year, again in the Charity Times. However, this is surely the biggest scoop to date and here at Provide we send them congratulations and look forward to continue working with them.
